The Swedish folks at Volvo announced their plans to offer new Drive-E engines for the current V40 and V40 Cross Country models.

We talk about two engines, namely the D4 which focuses on fuel economy, averaging 3,3 liters/100 km or 71,2 mpg US. The powerplant delivers 190 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque and provide CO2 emissions of 85 g/km.

There’s also a T5 petrol unit with 245 horses and 350 Nm of torque and fuel economy figures of 5,8 liters/100 km or 40,5 mpg US.

“Their outstanding take-off and responsiveness, combined with a smooth engine sound, will make the nimble V40 cars even more fun to drive,” adds the carmaker.

The diesel engine also benefits from a special i-Art technology which consists of an intelligent chip which monitors the injection pressure so the amount of injected fuel can be adjusted. More details on the company’s new Drive-E engines will be released soon.
