The Electric GT World Series, that’s the name. Its aim is to be the first zero emission championship based on street cars. At its start, sometime next year, there will be present ten teams.

The schedule includes seven races, spread over the three interesting markets for electric cars: Europe, America and Asia. It will certainly include races on Barcelona, Estoril, Mugello and Donington tracks and the cars will be based on the Tesla Model S P85+. The standard model hits the first 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and develops 416 hp and 601 Nm of torque. The suspensions, brakes and cooling systems will be redesigned for track conditions. The total weight will be reduced, while a body kit will take care of the stability at high speeds. More, the cars will be modified to comply with the latest FIA safety standards. They have been tested on Catalunya F1 Circuit and Jarama Circuit, in Madrid, to ensure the best handling possible.


The two co-founders of the championship are Agustin Paya, owner of the championship, which will be in charge with the technical part, and Mark Gemmell as a CEO. They chose the Tesla Model S mainly for its dynamic performances and because it’s a mass production vehicle. However, any electric car manufacturer that wants to race in the championship is invited to join it. At the competition’s start, there will be ten teams, each one owning two cars. However, there is not the only electric car championship: the most prestigious of them is Formula E, which uses electric prototypes.
