Just in case you hadn’t had enough of Smart’s dopey product naming, here comes a hint at what the company’s future may hold.

It’s called the Smart Forvision and it’s meant to showcase what the company will be doing with the next generation of the ForTwo.

The new design turned up recently and while Smart is trying to tell us it’s an all new concept we know the truth about the Forvision’s origins.

What this “new” future design-wise for Smart actually is, is a version with a roof of one of their older concepts, the Smart ForSpeed.

Equally unoriginal is the stuff that’s going underneath the new body with the roof on top of what used to be quirky and fun, something Smart pretends to be.

The electric motor that drives power to the rear wheels develops 40 horsepower and the fuel tank replacement is a 16.5 kWh lithium-ion battery.

Something that is a little different from the usual automotive industry’s regular decisions and that’s the new wheels.

Smart decided to make them out of plastic which weigh in at no more than 6.6 pounds. Other lightweight efforts from Smart can be seen in the new carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy resin they used to make the passenger compartment and the doors.

Bringing all of these together might raise a few questions in terms of safety but they provide a saving of anywhere in between 30 percent when compared to aluminium and 50 percent when compared with steel.
