The Fiat 500 changed the game for the company. They still make small cheap and practical cars but they’re also regarded as a lovable brand these days.

Such a success could not go unnoticed so Fiat have already started expanding the 500 to the point where its variations almost define a new brand.

The next step in its development is related to the way the 500 is about to spawn a crossover offspring. Things are pretty well laid out.

The Italian brand has already unveiled the crossover “concept” of their 500, the model they distinguished by adding an X to the end of.

Now they claim to have sorted out the new production venues for the Fiat 500X. It will be made at the company’s Melfi plant.

The Italian workers will certainly appreciate the work since not a lot of time has passed since Fiat started watering down production facilities in the country.

They’ll likely be twice as happy when they find out that the €1 billion ($1.3 billion USD) investment they plan to make at the factory will not be focused all around the 500X.

Fiat and Chrysler will both benefit from the new money being spent since alongside the 500X, the Melfi plant will be turning out a new Jeep crossover.

Both vehicles will be using the Small Wide platform they developed with all wheel drive crossovers in mind. Interestingly, the plant is capable of more.

Up to four models can be built at the facility so it will be interesting to follow up on what new models will be added by Fiat or Jeep there.
